When Employees Leave: Firing/Resigning or Retiring “Not
in his goals, but in his transitions man is great.”
R. W. Emerson Firing/Termination
or Retiring
– When an employee leaves, whether it is your choice
or theirs, much can be learned that can help prevent additional turnover
in the future. Information
can be gathered at this point, if it is treated as an opportunity for
gaining insight. There is
never a time that an employee is more willing to disclose information
that can be crucial to the employer.
This is also a time that you can add to your positive reputation
in the marketplace by creating as smooth a transition as possible for
that employee – who will have much to say in the corporate world about
their experience as your employee. Employees,
whether current or past, are your representation to others in the
corporate world of who you are as an Employer and a business.
They can dramatically affect your ability (or not) to attract
excellent talent into the future. Let
me assist you in turning this time with an exiting employee into a time
that creates maximum benefit to your organization.
I can provide exit interviews, outplacement services, and/or
guidance to the team that is left behind. If
the employee is considering retirement I can consult with you regarding
the potential of redesigning the position in such a way that could allow
the organization to still benefit from the excellent talent of that
employee while at the same time allowing the employee to fulfill their
desire to benefit from a “Retirees” lifestyle.
If the employee must retire completely from your organization I
can assist them in preparing for that retirement most effectively while
also assisting your staff in the smooth transition of their replacement. Services
available at time of Termination:
